However, this offers the benefit that difficulty levels are estimated by learners who have personally engaged with and reviewed the content.
All media with a difficulty rating are determined by editors or members of the 看剧学汉语 Discord Chinese learning community.
We do not determine this based solely on stats and numbers. We have found that the stats of the content, such as unique characters and unique words, don’t equate to the content’s difficulty level.
Many factors determine how challenging a piece of content is, such as the use of chengyus (成语 - Chinese idioms), reference to pop culture, the language style and knowledge required on particular subjects.
This means that the difficulty ratings are somewhat subjective, so please take them as guidance rather than as exact facts and science. Be sure to try different content at the same level to find something suitable for you.
