Overview

Pleco and Anki are very famous apps for Chinese language learning.

Pleco is an unrivaled dictionary app that also has a lot of very useful add-ons. Among them is a flashcards add-on that allows the user to add any word to a flashcards list and then review these words on a daily basis through the SRS system.

Anki is probably the most famous flashcards app, and it has a lot of options that allow great flexibility of card creation and vocabulary learning.

There is a simple way to create Anki cards using the Pleco app and its dictionaries. This will let you benefit from the best of both apps – easy flashcards creation, as well as the ability to add images and other files, sync through AnkiWeb to do reviews on multiple devices, add TTS and use other Anki PC add-ons, customize the cards, control the scheduling and many other great Anki features.

Steps to set up the connection

Anki

  1. Install AnkiDroid app on the Android device that has Pleco
    1. Recommended step: get an account on AnkiWeb, so that you can sync the flashcards between devices. It is both great for learning during convenient times and places, and also using PC Anki add-ons, such as HyperTTS
  2. Create the deck that you want to put the flashcards in, if you haven’t already
  3. Create the card type that you want to be using. Populate it with fields that you need, such as Word, Pronunciation, Meaning. I personally also add Image, Context sentence, Sentence translation, TTS audio, TTS sentence audio
